Presidential Papers Exhibit

Following the excellent museum acquisition of a family collection of 45 original letters and papers from Lyndon Johnson to a Silsbee citizen, we researched other presidential archives in the museum and learned that we had 8 US Presidents that we either had artifdacts for, or that were directly involved in our community.  We created a Presidential Papers exhibt stationed throughout the museum based on these artifacts.  An invitation was set to dignitaries and government officials for a private white glove viewing of the documents and a personal tour.  (The white glove tour was extended to individuals by appointment as well). Congressman Brain Babin made an appointment to bring his entire Washington DC and local staff to the museum during a week of retreat they had planned in this area. This was not publicized because Congressman Babin wanted to view the exhibit without the distraction of press or visitors and we accommodated that. Following this exhibit, he asked us to be the host musum of the Congresiional Art Exhibit for students from the Gulf Coast and East Texas area.
